Death Note

Light Yagami finds the “Death Note,” a notebook with the power to kill, and decides to create a Utopia by killing the world’s criminals, and soon the world’s greatest detective, “L,” is hired to find the perpetrator. An all out battle between the greatest minds on earth begins, the winner controlling the world.
I have not read the manga of same name, even though I bet almost every person out there who went to see this movie had beforehand. Maybe that’s the reason that I felt the movie lacked something. I don’t know what it is with me lately, but it’s been a while since I saw a movie and went “Wow, that was awesome”. Death Note just felt a bit mediocre to me in places although I must admit that it also had it’s interesting sides. The whole scary concept of the notebook being used to kill people and the genius vs. genius race was pretty cool. More cool on paper than in practice perhaps. Or maybe I just need to go watch it again. I’ll at the very least watch the sequel when it comes out.

Orange Days: The Magazine Anno 2006
Just like I did one year ago, I now have another edition of the Orange Days magazine out. It’s basically just a cover of a magazine on which I have placed clickable links to my most noteworthy posts (in my opinion) of the year to give anybody a quick overview of 2006 on this blog. Click the magazine below to check it out. :-)
Oh, and make your own magazine over here.
Watched The Host
Saturday morning I saw the critically acclaimed Korean blockbuster called “The Host”.

Let me just start out by saying that the movie was a mixed bag for me. It started out so awesome I could cry. I couldn’t believe it. A huge monster comes out of the water and starts attacking people. In the middle of the freaking day and it looked awesome! The monster is amazingly detailed and well done. I’m not completely sure, but I think WETA (of Lord of the Rings and King Kong fame) worked on it, which would probably explain why the movie looks this gorgeous.
The good: I liked the main characters of the movie and really felt with them and what they were going through. Outstanding CGI made the movie visually stunning.
The bad: I REALLY hated the parts of the movie that were in English. It’s ok to cast English-speaking actors, but please get good ones then. I’m actually not very demanding when it comes to how good an acting performance should be, but these were very poor. I would also have liked to see more attacks during the day, as the movie unfortunately became quite dark (visually, not storywise) for most of the remaining time.
At the end of the day The Host is one of those movies that I’m glad I got to see, but at the same time I don’t feel like buying the DVD all that much. I might have to watch the movie again sometime though.
Oh, and an upcoming cartoon and theme park based on the movie and also a cell phone and a PSP role-playing-game version have been announced, so that says a lot about just how popular the movie has become.
The Host
The Host is one of those movies I simply can’t wait to watch. I read about it on Kendra’s blog ages ago and I thought it looked awesome. The movie was received extremely well at the Cannes film festival and is getting good reviews. The IMDb rating is 7.4/10 (1207 votes), which seems pretty high, especially considering it’s a movie where it’s basically about huge monsters that are attacking people. The movie is the most viewed ever in Korea with more than 12.4 million people having watched it, and the record was set in just 38 days.
In other words: I simply can’t wait to watch this movie.

Christmas ‘06
In the spirit of it being the 1st of December and all, I’ve made a new header. I think I’ll keep it (more or less modified though) well into the new year.
Note to self: don’t start designing anything late at night, when I should be going to bed instead. I will regret it the following morning when I’m late for school.

This is the Limited “Black Clouds and Underdogs” Edition.
I know Fall Out Boy has been played to death in the US, but they’re really not THAT well known here in Denmark, except for maybe “Dance, Dance”. I’ve been listening quite a bit to some of these 18 tracks (some of which you can hear samples of below), but there’s a also a lot of tracks I find mediocre. The comparison to Panic! At The Disco is inevitable and I must say that Fall Out Boy just don’t do the same thing for me.
The Limited “Black Clouds and Underdogs” Edition was released in December of 2005, featuring three new songs, remixes of “Sugar, We’re Goin’ Down” and “Dance, Dance”, and on the iTunes-exclusive version, their respective music videos.
Below I’ve intentionally avoided choosing “Dance, Dance”, “Sugar We’re Goin’ Down” and “A Little Less Sixteen Candles, a Little More ‘Touch Me’”, as I bet everybody have heard them.
My favorite song (not counting the first 3 singles - I like “Dance, Dance” the most I think) on the album.
The ribbon on my wrist says, “Do not open before Christmas.”
Perfect for this time of year.
Another of my favorite songs.
There’s something about this song that makes me happy.
I like the beginning a lot.
An OK song.

My Chemical Romance - The Black Parade
[rating:5.0]
My Chemical Romance is back with a new album. I remember watching the music video for “Helena” and really loving it and watching it over and over a while ago, but this album is something entirely new and different from what they’ve done before. You’ve probably already heard their single called “Welcome To The Black Parade” (really good music video by the way) but I’m not really sure what their next single will be. One thing I’ve noticed while listening to The Black Parade again and again is that I’m not exactly sure yet how the songs work on their own, but as a concept album it’s fantastic. As a whole this album is simply a stroke of genius, which I’ll be listening a lot more to.
The Black Parade is a concept album, and tells the story of a man known only as The Patient, a victim of cancer. The album starts with the Patient’s death, spends its midsection ruminating on the life he left behind, and ends with his good-byes.
- from a review on Amazon
The first song on the album and also my favorite on the album. Very upbeat.
Very good and I like the chorus.
One of the better songs and also very sad as the title implies.
The saddest song on the album.
An awesome song, epic almost.
The perfect way to end the album.

What I’m Listening To #18
Bee J - Shake ItIt’s Danish and it rocks! I REALLY dig this song.
AFI - Love Like WinterA very nice song and I think I gotta say that it’s just as good, if not better than “Miss Murder”.
Saosin - You’re Not AloneThis is my favorite song from their self-titled album. Very sad and very good.
Lacuna - Celebrate The Summer 2006 (Rob Mayth Remix Edit)I remember listening to the original “Celebrate The Summer” during the summer of 2005 I think. Or was it the year before that? I don’t really remember, but I liked it. And this time Rob Mayth does it again - his remixes kick ass!
Lindsay Lohan - RumorsAhem… don’t really care for her music, but this one is pretty good. Moooving on…
The All-American Rejects - It Ends TonightI haven’t found a song by this band that’s quite as good as “Move Along”, but I like this one and also “Top Of The World”.
Muse - StarlightThere’s actually only three songs I like from this band. “New Born”, “Time Is Running Out” and this one. But I don’t really mind, because they are damn good.
