AND IN THAT MOMENT, I SWEAR WE WERE INFINITE

Nighteye is a weblog written by Dennis Ihlemann, a 21-year-old design aficionado hailing from Denmark. This site is a collection of his thoughts on movies, games, music, television, technology, anime, books, design, photography, typography, life, etc. Oh, and with a bit of lolcat thrown in here and there for good measure.

The Pink Spiders

The Pink Spiders

Sorry about all these music-related posts lately, but it’s just that I’m really listening to a lot of music these days. Earlier today I was watching Hell’s Kitchen (season 4, episode 6 to be exact) and this girl was celebrating her sweet 16 and after having had dinner at Hell’s Kitchen her favorite band, that’s right… The Pink Spiders, played a song called “Seventeen Candles”, which I really liked. It’s from their upcoming record Sweat It Out, which will be released September 23, 2008. Just click on the link above to listen to that song and a few others.

Poets of the Fall

Poets of the Fall

The other day I started listening to Poets of the Fall, a rock band hailing from Finland. They are a breath of fresh air to me and don’t really sound like anything else I’m currently listening to. They do, however, remind me a great deal of Sunrise Avenue, which is also from Helsinki, Finland. Anyway, go check out Poets of the Fall’s Myspace, official website and Youtube channel.

Viva La Vida Videos

Coldplay have released two new videos for their brilliant song “Viva La Vida”. The videos themselves are rather weird, quite experimental, but cool nonetheless I guess. But I think I was expecting something else. The song is still fantastic though and easily my favorite off Viva la Vida or Death and All His Friends, which as a record that unfortunately didn’t do an awful lot for me.

Hancock

Hancock

Finally saw Hancock and I must say I was pretty underwhelmed. It felt short (it is short clocking in at just 92 minutes, but it felt even shorter) and as the credits rolled I felt like I hadn’t even experienced an entire movie. Will Smith, Charlize Theron and Jason Bateman all did a pretty good job, but at the same time I’ve seen better performances in my life. The twist involving Theron was pretty surprising, but it fell flat for me and everything was kinda corny from then on to be brutally honest with you. The first half of the movie was way better, so this is definitely a DVD I won’t be getting. A rental, perhaps. But purchasing the movie? In the words of Will Smith: “Aww HELL naw!”.

The Resolution

The new Jack’s Mannequin single “The Resolution” can now be heard on Myspace and it’s amazing! I’m definitely not disappointed that’s for sure. I’m so excited for The Glass Passenger, which you can preorder and receive “Miss California” (a bonus track) instantly. It may be too much to ask for, but I could definitely see the album being my favorite of 2008. That’s how much I believe in it.

柴犬 (Shiba Inu)

Shiba

I really want to have a dog sometime and I’ve made my decision as to which breed to get when the time comes: the Japanese Shiba Inu.

The Shiba Inu was developed in Japan, to flush birds and small game and occasionally used to hunt wild boar. Now they are primarily kept as pets, both in Japan and the US. Quite possibly, a Shiba puppy is the most appealing of any of the dog breeds. It has been said that a Shiba looks like a live teddy bear. But the Shiba is not a toy - it is a very lively little dog with a unique set of characteristics.

So, why do I like the Shiba breed so much? First of all I’m in love with its almost fox-like appearance and the way it seems to carry itself with pride. It’s known for being intelligent and agile and is currently ranked as the number one companion dog in Japan and are also known for being excellent watchdogs. Plus they’re small and cute and are sometimes described as cat-like, which is never a bad thing if you love cats as much as I do.

Shiba

The breed has been featured in one of my all time favorite games Silent Hill 2, the very popular Nintendogs game for Nintendo DS and in Belvedere vodka ads.

Finally check out this video and this one too to see just how cute they are.

I’m sold.

Speaking of money Shiba dogs are priced at around the equivalent of $1,500 - $2,000 here in Denmark and are quite rare, so it’s not something I’ll just go ahead and do. But it’s nice to know what kind of dog I want and there’s no doubt about it, it has to be this one.

UPDATE:

I also just realized that there were several Shibas in my childhood favorite anime Silver Fang.
