Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street was a fantastic musical/movie! I must admit I hadn’t heard about it until a couple of days ago when I watched a commercial, which led me to watch the trailer, but what matters is that I saw it. It was really, really good. So different. I don’t know if it’s because I’ve never actually watched any Tim Burton movies, but I thought this one was pretty unique and Johnny Depp certainly deserves that Oscar nomination. Highly recommended.
Based on the hit Broadway musical which tells the infamous story of Benjamin Barker, a.k.a Sweeney Todd, who sets up a barber shop down in London which is the basis for a sinister partnership with his fellow tenant, Mrs. Lovett.
And a fun little fact: it’s currently #160 on IMDb. Very impressive.
I have to echo your remarks about this film–I actually went to see it again I was so impressed. I love how the songs tell the story and move it along, and yes, Depp was fantastic as the rest of the cast was, too.Dennis:
Sweeney Todd has been on my mind ever since I watched it and I’ve also had this urge to watch it again as soon as possible. Maybe I should. You are right, the entire cast was fantastic and what also made the movie amazing was the songs; they were really haunting, especially the one where the character Anthony Hope sings “Johanna”. That song was really beautiful. It’s rare that I feel like this about a movie.
