How I Listened to Hundreds of Albums Only to Find 10 That Were Perfect to Me

Skillet

Recently I was introduced to the band Skillet by a friend and I’m more than pleasantly surprised with their album Comatose. It consists of 12 songs and I listen to all of them without skipping a single track. After listening through it five or more times I thought to myself how rare that actually is! I mean when was the last time you discovered an album (and in this case also discovering an entirely new band at the same time), where you are actually able to listen through it all, time and time again?

The first time it happened was back in 2000 with Linkin Park’s debut album Hybrid Theory. I had never experienced anything like that. Usually when I bought CDs back then I only liked probably a handful, but I never regretted buying them, because I was used to it. But when Linkin Park showed up with both the debut album and then later on Meteora (2004) I was in awe. I didn’t skip any of the tracks and I thought that was so cool. It took me three years to have a similar experience.

The next band to achieve perfection for me was Cold. Their 2003 album Year of the Spider is flawless to me and I still love it, even though I don’t listen to it that often anymore.

Around the same time I started listening to Staind and that turned out to be a great choice as well. 14 Shades of Grey (2003) is excellent.

Another is Dream Evil and their album entitled Dragonslayer from 2003, but I didn’t find out about it until a year after its release.

One of my favorite albums of 2006 was Panic! At the Disco’s A Fever You Can’t Sweat Out (2005). So fresh, so new, so different.

My Chemical Romance’s The Black Parade (2006) is awesome!

Fall Out Boy’s From Under the Cork Tree (2005) was the album that introduced me to the band and it kept me listening all the way through 2006. Infinity On High on the other hand is the CD I’ve been listening to the most in 2007. I simply love every single track on both albums.

Recently Motion City Soundtrack’s Even If It Kills Me blew me away.

And then a few days ago I finally discovered Skillet and Comatose.

There were also a few artists that have put out albums that were close to perfection like: The Red Jumpsuit Apparatus, The Academy Is…, Paramore, New Found Glory and Coheed and Cambria.

Here’s the breakdown:

  • Linkin Park: Hybryd Theory (2003) and Meteora (2004)
  • Cold: Year of the Spider (2003)
  • Staind: 14 Shades of Grey (2003)
  • Dream Evil: Dragonslayer (2003)
  • Panic! at the Disco: A Fever You Can’t Sweat Out (2005)
  • My Chemical Romance: The Black Parade (2006)
  • Skillet: Comatose (2006)
  • Fall Out Boy: From Under the Cork Tree (2005) and Infinity on High (2007)
  • Motion City Soundtrack: Even If It Kills Me (2007)

I think that’s all of them. 10 perfect albums in 7 years.
