Wow! Everyone need to watch this movie as soon as possible! It’s one of the most wonderful, beautiful, well acted movies I’ve seen in a long time. While heartwarming at times it’s also painful in certain scenes, but the good kind of painful if that makes any sense. I read about it in the newspaper some months ago and couldn’t wait to finally see it. Tonight I did and I have nothing but praise for this movie.
Its 1983 and school is out. Twelve-year-old Shaun is a lonely boy growing up in a grim coastal town in northern England, whose father died fighting in the Falklands War. Over the course of the summer holiday he befriends a group of local skinheads. With his pent-up rage and frustration, Shaun finds exactly what he needs in the gangmischief, mayhem and brotherhood. He also meets the volatile and boorish Combo, an older skinhead who sees himself in Shaun. Adopting Shaun as his protégé, Combo leads the gang down a hate spewing path that culminates in an irreversible act of violence.
Thomas Turgoose (age 15), the actor who plays Shaun did an incredible and admirable job. There are many scenes I’ll remember for a long time, but the ending will probably stay with me the longest. It was truly shocking and will probably leave some in tears. It was that great.
Man, I loved the movie. I’m so getting the DVD sometime in 2008 when I can actually afford to buy anything.
