Ahh DuckTales. In terms of cartoons it’s one of the earliest and best memories I have of my childhood along with Darkwing Duck, Tintin (which I’m currently rewatching - 15/21 adventures so far), The Pirates of Dark Water (previously blogged about here), TMNT, Iznogood, Silver Fang (actually anime, but oh well) and probably a whole lot more that I can’t remember right now.
I was, no I am, a huge fan of Donald Duck. There was a time in my life where I was collecting all the Jumbobooks I possible could. They are called “Jumbobog” in Danish, but I thought it translates somewhat well - they are 256 page pocket books containing stories with Donald Duck and all of his friends and they are released monthly. And I definitely wasn’t the only one collecting these. For many years it was the bestselling book in Denmark peaking in 1994 with nearly 900,000 books sold, which is quite impressive since according to this website there was only 1,3 million children in the target group. More than 12 million copies have been sold to date with an additional 1 million copies being sold each year. I don’t have the exact number, but I know that there are currently more than 300 different books and personally I own about 120 or something along those lines. I haven’t bought a copy for several years, so I think this is pretty decent.
One of the most memorable Donald Duck-related things I think back on with a huge smile on my face is definitely when my older brother got one of his very first paychecks and spent some of it on a book entitled “Her Er Dit Liv Joakim” or The Life and Times of Scrooge McDuck Companion in English - for me! Thanks Morten! It was kinda expensive back then, especially for me as I was about 10 years old, but its value has definitely increased. I researched it a bit and I found out that it seems to be pretty rare here in Denmark and from what I can understand it can be seen on auctions being sold from $90 to $330. It cost my brother about $45 if I remember correctly and I usually do when it comes to numbers - I’m strange that way.
Probably the best comic book I’ve read. It’s amazing (I’ve read it numerous times) and even more so if you’re a fan of the whole Donald Duck universe of course.
Anyway, where was I? Oh yeah.
The reason I’m even posting this is because those guys below managed to get me all nostalgic. Man, I loved that song.
Wow det er skørt, I like it :P
