I first heard of Supercar when I watched Ping Pong. I asked around on the Internet to find out who on Earth had composed such a wonderful, relaxing almost otherworldly track, which plays in the intro. It didn’t sound like anything I had heard before. Unfortunately I haven’t been able to find a music video of “Free Your Soul”, but the two (Yumegiwa Last Boy and Strobolights) remaining Supercar songs from the soundtrack are on YouTube.
The genre is hard to define. I guess it’s sort of experimental/techno/pop.
They split up in early 2005 and the members are now out doing solo projects.
The band SUPERCAR was formed in 1995, by bassist Miki, who was only 16 at the time. By 1997, they had a major-label record deal and had begun producing albums. SUPERCAR is something of an unusual band. Both Miki and Koji take turns at vocals, and sometimes do duets, like in the song Lucky. However, on more recent albums, Koji has become the more dominant vocalist, and you don’t hear Miki nearly as often as you used to. Songs range from straight rock, to techno, to softer ballads, to just plain unusual.
Just a minor warning. These music videos are truly weird and bizarre! The first one also contains brief nudity.
Thanx for this great post.
